Cassandra Wood, R.D., L.D., is a board certified registered dietitian and licensed dietitian-nutritionist in the state of Texas. She began studying nutrition in Western Pennsylvania and obtained her Registered Dietitian Status through the University of Houston in conjunction with the Texas Medical Center. Cassandra is professionally associated with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Association of Diabetes Educators, and the Institute for Functional Medicine. Cassandra is now pursing her true passion of using food as medicine and has joined Texas Lifestyle Medicine to educate patients on utilizing proper nutrition to heal the body.
Her clinical skills encompass a variety of work experience with diabetes, pre-diabetes and weight management. When finding spare time Cassandra enjoys volunteering for the American Diabetes Association and states, "My involvement with the ADA has affirmed my determination to make a difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes. Witnessing the lifestyle adjustments and complications of a disease which if not managed properly, can be fatal, has triggered a compassion in me and a sense of responsibility to others that I might not have otherwise discovered."
"Growing up in a household where family dinners were a daily must, and almost every one of them being cooked from scratch, my love for pure, unprocessed foods stemmed from a young age and grew with me and my taste buds through the years. When I chose to study Dietetics in college, my appreciation for proper nutrition soon became a passion. I was intrigued by the science and research revealing that behind almost every disease or deficiency, there is a link to malnourishment, micronutrient deficiency, or inappropriate food choices. Not only did I love learning all of the ways in which nutrition can heal the gut, energize the mind, and shape our bodies, but I loved sharing it with others.
I found the knowledge to be empowering and the sharing of that knowledge to be fulfilling. Many would say that our gut is our second brain, one which can drastically improve energy, reduce stress, increase immunity, enhance sleep, boost cognition, and satisfy other needs if we provide the proper nourishment. My mission and goal at Texas Lifestyle Medicine is to help others better fuel their lives through proper nutrition, and to eliminate ailments which may be holding them back. We can all achieve the healthiest, happiest, cognitive, most energized, and optimal version of ourselves, through feeding our body, brain, and gut the nutrients so greatly deserved!"
