What is Brain Mapping?

The Technology

It is a way of measuring and analyzing brain waves using an EEG (electroencephalograph) device. The BrainView Neuralscan Pro is a QEEG device that we use to measure and analyze brain activity in our patients. It uses sensors placed on the scalp to detect the electrical activity of the brain, and then converts that activity into a visual representation called a brain map. This allows us to see patterns in the brain's activity and identify areas that may be functioning differently than normal.

Why Do We Map The Brain?

General Overview (more details in FAQ section below)

The human brain is a complex and fascinating organ, responsible for controlling every aspect of our lives, from our physical movements to our emotions and thoughts. As such, it is no surprise that the study of the brain, known as neuroscience, is one of the most rapidly growing and exciting fields in medicine today. One of the most important tools that neuroscientists use to study the brain is a technique called quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG).

Brain mapping, also known as quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG), is a non-invasive procedure that measures and analyzes the electrical activity of the brain. It is a powerful tool for identifying underlying brain function and can be used to evaluate a wide range of neurological and mental health conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, sleep disorders, chronic fatigue, hormone imbalances, and mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Additionally, brain mapping can be used to screen for memory loss and to evaluate the effectiveness of various treatment options.

One of the most advanced brain mapping devices on the market today is the BrainView Neuralscan Pro, which allows for highly accurate and detailed measurement of brain activity. This device is particularly useful for evaluating conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, which is characterized by a decline in cognitive function and memory loss. Brain mapping can also be used to evaluate sleep disorders, which are often associated with chronic fatigue and other health issues.

Brain mapping can also be used to evaluate hormone imbalances and mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. For example, research has shown that individuals with depression often have abnormal activity in certain regions of the brain, such as the prefrontal cortex and the hippocampus. By measuring and analyzing brain activity, brain mapping can help identify these abnormalities and provide insight into the underlying causes of these conditions.

Another important use of brain mapping is in the evaluation of movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis. These conditions are characterized by abnormal brain activity, which can be identified and quantified using brain mapping. This can help provide insight into the underlying causes of these conditions, as well as help evaluate the effectiveness of various treatment options.

It is important to note that brain mapping is a fully or partially covered by most insurance policies, depending on the plan and policy. This makes it a cost-effective and accessible option for individuals looking to better understand and manage their neurological or mental health conditions.

Overall, brain mapping is a powerful tool for evaluating brain function and can be used to identify underlying issues related to a wide range of neurological and mental health conditions. By measuring and analyzing brain activity, brain mapping can provide insight into the underlying causes of these conditions and help evaluate the effectiveness of various treatment options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Poor sleep is a growing concern in today's fast-paced society. Not only can it affect our energy levels and mood, but it can also have a significant impact on our brain health. Recent studies have shown that poor sleep can lead to a decline in cognitive function, an increased risk of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and a weakened immune system.

One of the most effective ways to assess the impact of poor sleep on the brain is through the use of a quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) brain mapping. This non-invasive technique uses sensors placed on the scalp to measure electrical activity in the brain. The data collected is then analyzed to create a map of brain activity, which can reveal underlying issues related to sleep, such as insomnia, sleep apnea, and other sleep disorders.

Our device, Brain View Neuralscan Pro, is an advanced qEEG brain mapping tool that provides detailed and accurate results. It can be used to identify areas of the brain that may be under- or over-active, as well as areas that may be associated with specific disorders or conditions. This information can be used to create personalized treatment plans that target the specific needs of the individual.

One of the major benefits of using a qEEG brain mapping device like Brain View Neuralscan Pro is that it can detect underlying issues that may be contributing to poor sleep, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. By identifying these issues early, we can take steps to address them and improve sleep quality.

Another benefit of using qEEG brain mapping is that it can be used to monitor the progress of treatment. By re-mapping the brain at regular intervals, we can see how treatment is impacting brain activity and make adjustments as needed.

At TCLM, we believe in the power of qEEG brain mapping to improve brain health and sleep quality. We encourage anyone who is struggling with poor sleep to take advantage of this cutting-edge technology and see for themselves the benefits it can provide.

Leading up to the Superbowl in 2020, Dr. Ruan was tasked to coordinate with PrimeMyBody, a company that made the product Focus, to see its effect on former NFL players. This was featured in Forbes. In 2022, the results of this was published in a landmark peer review journal which is the first study looking at NFL players utilizing qEEG technology to assess brain improvements. This study was authored by our very own, Dr. Francesco Amico, Ph.D. and Dr. Cheng Ruan, MD. This study serves as a springboard for the NFL former players association and the NFL to fund future endeavours to assess how chronic impacts affect the brain. We are proud to be part of this amazing movement toward brain health.
