Kitchen Behavior Training~Minerals!

Do you want to learn how to use food as a medicine? Are you looking for ways to incorporate minerals into your diet in order to support your health and well-being? If so, join us next week Tuesday at 5:30 PM for an informative discussion about culinary medicine and minerals. Our Kitchen Behavior Training educators include registered dietitian Ruben Lespron, lifestyle Chef Franklin, and Dr. Cheng Ruan, MD.

Together they will help us understand the benefits of mineral-rich foods and provide tips on how to incorporate them into our diets! Why is it so important to focus on mineral intake for our health? With extensive treatments that have been done to our soil, increased use of pesticides, and an increased consumption of processed foods, a lot of our food sources have been stripped of vital minerals. Minerals are so important for the health of our gut, immune system, cardiovascular health, nervous system, and more. When we are lacking in minerals, we may begin to experience...

Group Coaching this Month!

As a Lifestyle Medicine Clinic, we have over the past few months added to our list of services in order to meet the needs of our amazing members wishing to better their health!

Group visit sessions have been one of the many ways we deliver health education, tools to heal the body and mind, and ways to involve our members in the community. Research shows that social isolation is more detrimental to our health than obesity or even smoking! We are definitely creatures who thrive in community, no matter how introverted you may be! But we know that many do not have a support system to lean on or people in their circle who understand the ins and outs of dealing with chronic, often invisible illnesses. Group visits solve this dilemma, as we offer a safe space to express thoughts, emotions, and personal struggles in a non-judgemental space. Group visits also teach valuable communication and social support tools, as we allow members to each have a chance to share their thoughts, while...

What is Culinary Medicine at TCLM?

Welcome to the world of Culinary Medicine! This is where health meets pleasure and nutrition meets deliciousness. We believe that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring or restrictive. In fact, it can be a fun, creative experience - one that can lead to lasting lifestyle changes and improved overall well-being.

At our kitchen behavior training group visits for our members, we teach them how to explore new ideas in the kitchen that are both delicious and nutritious. Last week we had an insightful discussion around our relationship with sugar - how to find balance when it comes to treats while also enjoying meals without sabotaging your health goals. Our team includes Ruben, a registered dietitian; Chef Franklin who adds his expertise on flavoral food preparation; Geny Moreno shares her knowledge on nutrition and mindful eating habits, and Dr. Cheng Ruan provides guidance backed by science and nutrition. Together they bring unique perspectives which add spice (no pun...

Mind-Body Medicine- More than Just Tools

Mind-body medicine has played a vital role in the healing journey of many of our patients, addressing underlying emotional concerns and expressing belief systems in a non-judgmental environment. Mind-body medicine sessions offered in the clinic are more than just learning tools such as breathing, meditation, and movement; they're about discovering how to incorporate them into our lives in order to manage our emotions and triggers differently. Mind-body medicine is about embodying self-awareness so that we can genuinely transform our minds and regulate our emotions. The mind-body skills practiced in group sessions give us the opportunity to become aware of ourselves on a deeper level and learn how to manage our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Here is what one can expect when attending a mind-body group visit in the clinic or virtually:

  1. Leave your judgments toward yourself and others at the door! Mind-body medicine is all about creating space to feel, release, and discuss...

Nutrition Coaching Group Visits!

Are you looking to improve your nutrition and discover how to eat a balanced, healthy diet but don't know where to start? We know how challenging and lonely a chronic healing journey can be. Whether you struggle with an invisible but challenging illness, desire to lose weight, are seeking to reverse diabetes, or simply want to lead a healthier life, it is very challenging to walk along a health journey by yourself. Therefore, group coaching visits with Ruben Lespron, Registered Dietitian, may be the perfect opportunity for you.

Group coaching visits provide an interactive way to learn about nutrition and how different food groups can be balanced for one's specific needs. As a society, we tend to over complicate nutrition. Most of us have tried various fad diets in order to resolve our health issues or in an attempt to find a quick fix for our metabolic issues. While short-term dietary changes may be beneficial to some degree, we know that it is the lasting and consistent...

Group Coaching Programs are Changing the Way Medicine is Practiced

Transformational Group Coaching Programs are transforming disease prevention and improving chronic illness outcomes. We have seen within our medical care system, a huge need for community support, patient- driven care, health education, emotional support, and real time dedicated to attending to patient's needs concerns. Unfortunately, providers often do not have the tools and resources required to deliver such care and are unable to dedicate time required to listen to patients deep needs and address holistic aspects needed for healing. This involves addressing the physical, mental, and emotional facets of health that most healthcare practices are not equipped to deliver.

Most people who suffer from chronic illness have been through several different physicians, specialists, and facilities before ever receiving a diagnosis. Even when they know what illness they are facing, they often complain of receiving very little background information regarding the causes of their disease, and...

Why You Need Health Coaching

Why do we recommend health coaching for all of our patients? Most of us know what we need to do in order to improve our health, such as exercise, eating healthy foods, prioritizing sleep, and managing stress. There is so much research, resources, and loads of free information at our fingertips, yet metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, and other chronic illnesses continue to be on the rise.

Our society's mental health as a whole seems to be struggling more than ever, especially after the pandemic. Because there are so many resources and educational content is endless, we do not believe that the chronic physical illness and mental health crisis is due to a lack of knowledge, but an inability to know how to put the tools in action and remain on the course.

Though most of us know what we should be doing, it's quite another thing to have the support and guidance to make it happen. Behavior change takes a tremendous amount of effort...
